Before you install any upgrade, synchronize your Palm OS handheld computer, then make a safe copy of your backed-up databases.

If something goes wrong, you can reinstall your old databases using the Palm Install Tool.

To find out what version of Ultrasoft DataShield you're using, tap on the Options menu in the DataShield program on your Palm OS® handheld computer, and select About DataShield. If you have a version earlier than the number shown above, we recommend that you install the latest version.

See below for a description of all the changes in each update and fix. Read this carefully before installing an update!

IMPORTANT: Please review the upgrade instructions before installing an update.

This HOTFIX release fixes a bug that prevented encrypted data from being displayed in the main list.

This HOTFIX release fixes a bug introduced by the Treo 650 support whereby the software would crash on any Handspring device that was not a Treo 600 or 650.

Ultrasoft DataShield 1.4.7 (12/9/2004)

This update addresses the following issues:

  • Using global find would cause the device to reset in some circumstances.

  • Fixed the password button layout for Treo 650 devices.

  • If the desktop database did not exist, a Handheld overwrites desktop sync would fail with error code 2.

Ultrasoft DataShield 1.4.6 (11/17/2004)

This HOTFIX release addresses the following issues in the Palm OS® handheld application:

  • Added support for palmOne Tungsten T5 and Treo 650 devices.

  • On Treo devices, the application would not auto-lock if the timeout was set to a very long interval.

  • The Quick Lookup search would not work reliably across multiple pages.

This release also addresses the following issues in the Windows desktop application:

  • Editing a template would decrypt or encrypt records according to the template settings, without regard to the Encrypt All preference.
  • Double-clicking on the preview pane now opens the template or record for editing.

HOTFIX: On some versions of Palm OS, repeating reminder dates would be calculated incorrectly. In addition, using the reminder Snooze function would result in future reminders being delayed by the snooze interval.

  • NEW Import Wizard lets you import data from CSV and other delimited text files.

  • New Find and Find Again menu items let you search for text in your desktop database.

To use the Import Wizard, choose the File/Import menu option, select a CSV or text file, and follow the step-by-step instructions.

Ultrasoft DataShield 1.1.5 (4/2/2003)

HOTFIX: If the DataShield database was initialized on a Windows desktop computer and downloaded to the handheld, it would contain an internal error that would cause new templates to "mirror" existing templates. This problem would not occur if the database was initialized on the handheld.

Ultrasoft DataShield 1.1.4 (3/30/2003)

This update includes the following fixes and improvements to the Windows desktop version of DataShield:

  • Support for Office XP-style menus and controls.

  • New minimize-to-taskbar setting lets you hide DataShield with an icon in the Windows system task bar.

  • Improved support for multi-line notes and reminders.

The new XP-style menus and the Minimize-to-taskbar setting can be enabled via the Tools/Customize menu option in the Miscellaneous settings group.

Ultrasoft DataShield 1.1.3 (3/19/2003)

HOTFIX: DataShield 1.1 would display the "30-day trial expired" message if you installed the "default" handheld databases during setup, created a new desktop database by running the desktop application, and then attempted to synchronize the two. This issue affected unregistered "trial mode" users only.

Note: if you create a new desktop database by running the DataShield desktop application, you should select the "Desktop overwrites handheld" HotSync action before you synchronize. DataShield cannot automatically combine an existing handheld database with an existing desktop database. Click here for more information.

Ultrasoft DataShield 1.0.3 (1/20/2003)

Creating a new data record, deleting it, then deleting its template could cause the program crash the next time a new data record was created.

Ultrasoft DataShield 1.0.2 (1/16/2003)

Beaming the DataShield application would also beam the user's data on Palm OS 4.0 and later devices. While the recipient would need to know the password to access the data, this was not an intended feature and has been removed in this update.

Note that on Palm OS 4.0 and later devices, beaming the DataShield application will also transfer the templates database, but not the icons database. The icons database can be beamed separately using the Beam menu command in the Palm application launcher.
